SIPIT, directly under the Shanghai State Bureau of Technology & Supervision (SBTS), is a comprehensive institution of Supervision &Testing on Product Quality. In September 1995, it was approved by China National Accreditation Committee for Laboratories (CNACL) and authorized as the National Laboratory.
Instructed by the government departments of all levels and entrusted by the walks of life, the main tasks of SIST is to carry on such activities as supervised inspection, quality identification, quality arbitration, commodity checking, identification of the new products & inventions, issuance of manufacturing license, experimental process simulation of the products coming from the enterprises or circulation of markets and inspection of the enterprises' quality system, etc. Furthermore, it provides the testing data and quality information for the government, society and enterprises with a testing report, which is scientific, fair and legal.

SIPIT, approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC (AQSIQ), set up "National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Electric Light Source Product Quality (Shanghai)" in 1988 and "National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Food Product Quality (Shanghai)" in 2003 respectively. It embodies labs of food, chemical product, light source, electrical appliance, communication product, mechanical product, house package, wood, decorated material, pesticide & fabric with the integrated testing ability. Now the number of testable items has reached 968.

With "Science, Fairness, Efficiency, Probity" as the tenet, SIPIT always persists in the principle of "grasp links of material and ethical progress at the same time and attach sufficient importance to both" during its inspection work .Since 1995, it has continuously entitled as the Model Unit by the Shanghai Municipal Government and awarded the Model Unit of National System on Supervision & Inspection by the National Ministry of Personnel & AQSIQ. We will try our best to serve for the government, society and enterprises and do our due contribution to improve the product quality, purify the market and safeguard the life and property of the people.
